It got pretty ugly outside of a Trump rally on Thursday night in San Jose, California. A number of demonstrators began to attack Trump supporters by jumping on cars, as well as throwing punches, eggs and water balloons. The demonstrators snatched “Make America Great” hats off of the heads of Trump supporters before burning them and then taking selfies with the charred remains.
The violent rally left one officer injured and resulted in the San Jose Police Department arresting several attackers. The police department was able to eventually clear out the protest calling it an “unlawful assembly.”
This incident isn’t the first of its kind. As the campaign trail heats up and presidential hopefuls take shots at each other, their supporters are taking matters into their own hands. What is becoming quite common is the unrest at Trump rallies between Trump supporters and protestors. So far there have been at least two other instances of violence. In Albuquerque, rocks and bottles were thrown and in Costa Mesa, one Trump supporter was beaten and police cars were vandalized. Not to encourage violence or excuse the actions of protestors, but Trump supporters are not completely innocent in these situations either. At the rally in Costa Mesa, they circled a protestor carrying a Mexican Flag and began to yell “Build that wall. Build that wall.” They’ve also been known to attack black people like the young lady assaulted in Louisville.
One can only hope that as things become even more tense between the presidential candidates, that this doesn’t translate into more violence.
