Queen Latifah is one of the most influential female emcees in hip-hop. She made her mark in a male-dominated industry and continues to pave the way for other women to succeed. While her rap skills remain unmatched, many social media users were speechless after realizing the Newark native can also sing.

According to Newsweek, the hip-hop legend sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Sunday ahead of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants game at MetLife Stadium. The 53-year-old performed during the NFL’s Sunday Night Football broadcast as the two NFC rivals kicked off their season.

Queen Latifah’s rendition of the national anthem also served as a 9/11 tribute, with choir members from the New York Police Department and the New York Fire Department. Additionally, members from both departments involved or affected by the 2001 terrorist attack walked alongside the Giants as they took the field.

The actor, rapper and singer seemingly blew away the crowd and viewers at home with her sultry voice, Today.com reported. However, many X users called out those who had just learned Queen Latifah was a singer in addition to her other talents.

“I had no clue Queen Latifah sings,” one user confessed.

“People are JUST finding out that Queen Latifah sings? Have they not seen ‘Chicago’ or ‘Hairspray’? Or saw that she released two jazz albums? Or even when she played Bessie Smith in that HBO movie?” another said.

“See history is so important because why people say they didn’t know Queen Latifah was a rapper,” another user wrote.

“I’m so flabbergasted by y’all not recognizing that is Queen Latifah singing the living single theme song 😭” an X user said.

Another user pointed out that Queen Latifah also released a jazz album and sang in several musicals.

“Queen Latifah got a whole ass Jazz album, sings in musicals, tv series and movies. And n***as talking about they didn’t know she could sing,” the person wrote.
