A few days ago, Blavity reported on Hampton alum Kai Kitchens and her run-in with the police while driving. As you may recall, she was stopped three times in thirty minutes and then arrested. After being detained for four days, Kitchen finally went before a judge on Thursday, according to WAVY.
Here’s what we know about her being pulled over, according to police: Kitchen was stopped for the first time on I-81 south around 7 a.m. Sunday. She was driving 93 mph in a 70 mph zone. She was released, but then pulled over by the same officer about 40 minutes later, that time driving 97 mph on I-81 north. She was released again, and then stopped for a third time around 8 a.m. when she was clocked at 94 mph on the interstate.
The Pulaski County Commonwealth’s attorney Mike Fleenor stated in court that this was “fairly routine” and that Kitchen was a real danger to others on the highway.
The judge ordered Kai Kitchen to pay $500 for the first two speeding tickets. He then suspended her Virginia driver’s license for 12 months based on the third ticket. She was also sentenced to 12 months in jail, with all but four days suspended. Kitchen has served that time.
The mother of Kitchen, Rae Jones, who put out a cry for help on Facebook told reporters, “I’m taking my baby home. That’s all I care about. That’s all I care about.”
We are happy to see that Kai Kitchen made it out of jail safely, and most importantly, alive.
