So clearly, I don’t know anything anymore…

Boy was I wrong about the new Tyler Perry shows for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network!

Initially, I thought that OWN’s demo would reject them, and that they wouldn’t fare very well on the network, and would eventually be canceled. What instead happened here is that Tyler Perry’s audience followed him from TBS, where his 2 or 3 TV series once called home, to OWN, itself seemingly no longer the network that Oprah likely, originally intended, becoming, essentially, a competitor to other black TV networks like BET and TV One

Keep in mind that there’s at least one more Tyler Perry sitcom coming to OWN.

Two weeks ago OWN announced that it had ordered an additional 26 episodes of Tyler Perry’s Love Thy Neighbor, bringing the total season order to 52 episodes.

And, in addition, the network also ordered an another four episodes of the Tyler Perry drama The Haves and the Have Nots on top of the 16 additional episodes previously ordered in June. This brings the total order for The Haves and the Have Nots to 36 episodes for its first season.

And lastly, Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse will join OWN beginning Wednesday, September 18, with two back-to-back half hour episodes at 9 pm and 9:30 pm – all new episodes for season three.

So, clearly, the opposite of everything I thought would happen with this Oprah/Tyler partnership has indeed happened. So I’ll just shut up now.
