First, Regina King has booked a recurring role on FX‘s new drama series The Strain, which is based on the vampire graphic novel by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.

Described as an epic battle for survival between man and vampire, The Strain follows a Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (to be played by Corey Stoll), the head of the Centers for Disease Control in NYC, and his team, who are called on to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak that resembles an ancient strain of vampirism. 

Regina King will play a character named Ruby Wain, who’s described as a smart and accomplished manager of philandering a rock star named Gabriel Bolivar (played by Jack Kesy). Bolivar is one of the undead assistants of a character known as The Master – one of the seven original vampires, who now inhabits the body of Jusef Sardu, a 19th-century Armenian nobleman afflicted with gigantism. The Master sets into motion a series of events to remake the world in his own dark image, with the help of his acolytes, including the aforementioned Gabriel Bolivar (Regina King’s character’s client), as well as a former Nazi commandant named Thomas Eichhorst.

Up next for Regina King is Lifetime’s biopic on the life of two-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas, tentatively titled The Gabby Douglas Story, in which she’ll play Gabby’s mother.

The Strain was published in 2009, but I’ve never read it. Anyone done so? If so, thoughts?
