Lil Wayne and Toya Johnson’s daughter Reginae Carter hosted an NYX Professional Makeup event in partnership with Universal Studios on Friday. Carter opened up about what she learned from her father. The 24-year-old is securing the bag — from TV gigs, running businesses and hosting events. Carter says she understands the ins and outs of the industry.

“My dad taught me a lot about just being in the industry, period,” Carter told People. “With him being in this industry since he was 12 years old, he taught me just to keep a thick skin, always be true to myself, never let one tell me what I can and cannot do.”

She also props her dad for teaching her to ignore the headlines about Toya and himself. Outside of her parents, Carter has become a social media “it girl,” with millions of fans supporting her multi-hyphenated career.

“I definitely have this tough skin because of all that I’ve been through in this industry, with all the lies, with all the things that I have to hear about my parents,” she said. “And just even my aunts and stuff, this industry I grew up with a lot of people that they talk about and they have these headlines about.
At the NYX Professional Makeup’s Mon-Star Halloween bash in Los Angeles, makeup gurus from the city showed off their NYX-inspired looks and got exclusive looks at the brand’s latest spooky season items. For her look, Reginae and NYX transformed her into a “Mummi Twin” in seven hours alongside model Sydney Bell. The reimagined monster was designed by SFX makeup artist Mimi Choi according to People.
