Representing New York's 8th District, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries honored the legacies of some of rap's most important female MCs on the House floor earlier this month.
As Women's Month nears its end, Jeffries wanted to do something others have failed to do: give female rappers the respect they deserve for making the rap game what it is today.
“Throughout the years, artists such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen have been recognized on the floor of the House of Representatives,” Jeffries said in his speech.
Jeffries left no stone unturned as he chose women from different eras of rap. The women recognized included Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Eve, Remy Ma, Lauryn Hill and Da Brat among the top 10 dopest MC collaborations of all time.
In addition to showing love on the House floor, Jeffries also shared his Number 1 on Medium for his supporters to view. The list included video clips along with a few words on why each collaboration should be celebrated. (Feel free to head over and take a look.)
"As we celebrate Women's History Month here in the United States Congress, these dynamic women are worthy to be praised," Jeffries closed.
