The gunman who shot at a black man in a video from the Charlottesville rally has been identified and arrested by police on Saturday, Aug 26 after the ACLU of Virginia handed over footage to the FBI.
Baltimore-area man Richard Wilson Preston, 54, was captured on video yelling the n-word and allegedly firing at a black protester, who was fending off a white supremacist who threw an object at him.
Then, after firing, Preston scurries off and rejoins the rest of the white supremacist rallygoers. As bystanders in video indicate, police were on scene but did nothing to stop the man.

According to USA Today, Preston was a Ku Klux Klan imperial wizard in 2013 who claimed the that the KKK was not racist but simply wanted to "stop Barack Obama." Preston has been charged with discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, per CNN.
White man literally shooting into a crowd at black people in broad daylight met w/ 100% less police violence than black folks 4 being black. https://t.co/5jaQB9uvwd

The Unite the Right rally was a scene of violent unrest over the planned removal of a Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee statue. White supremacist groups clashed with anti fascist protesters near the University of Virginia campus. The weekend's chaos resulted in the death of several people most notably 32-year-old Heather Heyer after James Alex Fields Jr. drove into a crowd of people.
