The bleeding under new chief Jeff Zucker’s reign continues…
Last day at @cnn is April 6.
Those were words posted to Twitter today by the ascot-wearing CNN analyst Roland Martin.
Martin reportedly replied to a follower who asked for reasons why, stating:
New boss wants his own peeps.
Although this one really shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. It was about a year ago that Martin was suspended by CNN for his controversial Super Bowl commercial remarks. In response to an underwear ad featuring David Beckham, Martin said on Twitter:
If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!”
Naturally, GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) didn’t take too kindly to Martin’s tweet, and responded on its website, stating:
Martin’s tweets today advocating violence against gay people weren’t an accident — they are a part of a larger pattern for Martin. Anti-gay violence in America is a serious problem.
And due to the controversy that followed, Martin was reportedly suspended by CNN for about a month.
A funny response to Martin’s tweet, if I’d thought of it at the time, would’ve been:
If a dude at your Super Bowl party is wearing an ascot, smack the ish out of him!
Anyway, Martin joins Sergio’s favorite person in the whole world, Soledad O’Brien, as ex-CNN check cashers; although O’Brien did launch a production company that would produce feature documentaries for CNN.
But I’m sure Martin will be just fine without CNN.
