According to the network, the season will have “a focus on the bonds of friendship and the power of Black sisterhood as the ladies fashionably navigate through the ups and downs of love and careers in their pursuit of world domination.”
As the synopsis states:
Run the World chronicles the euphoric highs and heartbreaking lows that Whitney, Renee and Sondi must endure in their pursuit of world domination. Whitney must follow the road of self-discovery in order to thrive in her life with or without Ola, while Renee and Sondi must decide what they truly want out of life – both in love and their careers. Whether they reunite with a past love, taste the life of a millionaire, or see their career take off in a radical new direction, these powerful Black women, fortified by their impenetrable friendship, won’t let anything get in their way.
Actors Bresha Webb, Amber Stevens West and Corbin Reid return as friends Renee, Whitney and Sondi. Tosin Morohunfola and Stephen Bishop will also return in recurring roles, with Erika Alexander and Nick Sagar returning in recurring guest roles. The second season also sees the addition of Rachelle Williams-BenAry as the showrunner and executive producer for the second season, with Yvette Lee Bowser and Leigh Davenport returning as executive producers.
During the first season, Run the World had one of its leads depart, reportedly because of COVID protocols. According to prior reports, Andrea Bordeaux decided not to return to the series because of issues with Lionsgate Television’s mandatory coronavirus vaccine mandate. Her role was not recast.
