S. Epatha Merkerson is returning to NBC, the network that carried the long-running series she left (Law & Order).
The actress has booke a recurring role on Deception (initially titled Notorious, and then switched to Infamous, and now will be called Deception), which stars Meagan Good as detective Joanna Locasto, a female detective who returns undercover to the wealthy family she grew up in – as the maid's daughter – to solve the murder of the notorious heiress who was once her closest friend – celebutante Vivian Lawson.
The NBC series co-stars Laz Alonso, Victor Garber, Tate Donovan, and Katherine LaNasa co-starring.
Merkerson will play Joanna’s mom Beverly Padget, the maid who worked for the wealthy family, when Joanna was a young girl.
Laz Alonso is slated to play NYPD detective Will Sacovitch, who recruits Good's character, his former flame, to team up and infiltrate the Lawson home – led by Victor Garber as Robert Lawson, and Tate Donovan as his son.
The show's mid-season debut date is set for January 7, 2013; It'll air on Monday nights, in the 10pm – 11pm hour, following The Biggest Loser at 9pm, until the return of The Voice.
