Fox has announced that the network is developing an event series about a racially-charged Tennessee-set police shooting involving an African American cop and a white teen.
The series, which will focus on the aftermath of the shooting, will see Sanaa Lathan and her "Love & Basketball" director Gina Prince-Bythewood reuniting for the project
Lathan will play an expert investigator covering the case, who is sent to the town by the Department of Justice. She will be paired with a special prosecutor (yet to be cast) as the two navigate the media attention, public debate and social unrest that comes after the volatile case, on a quest for justice, before the divided town erupts in a race war.
Exec-producing alongside Prince-Bythewood are Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Reggie Rock Bythewood (who is also co-writing).
Lathan was most recently seen on the big screen in the thriller "The Perfect Guy," with Morris Chestnut and Michael Ealy.
Bythewood’s last directorial effort was the drama "Beyond the Lights," which starred Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Prince-Bythewood will direct the untitled Fox drama series, which will be produced by Undisputed Cinema ("Beyond the Lights"), Imagine Television and 20th Century Fox Television.
