President Trump called Sen. Kamala Harris "nasty" in response to her questioning of Attorney General William Barr during an interview with Fox Business where the president also said two other presidential candidates were "ranting like lunatics."

“You have three of them running against me, and they’re up there ranting and raving like lunatics, frankly,” the president said about Sens. Cory Booker, Amy Klobuchar and Kamala Harris. “They don’t care about this. They’re just looking for political points.”

It is not the first time Trump has used insulting language or the word "nasty" to describe potential political opponents. In 2016, Trump called Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton a "nasty woman" during a presidential debate.

Sen. Harris responded to the president’s comments in an interview with CNN and defended her questioning of the attorney general while drawing a distinction in her leadership style and President Trump's.

“We have a president of the United States whose primary interest I think that has been clear as a result of what we know as a result of the Mueller report, his primary interest has been to obstruct justice,” Harris said. “My primary interest is to pursue justice. You can call that whatever name you want, but I think that’s what the American people want in a leader.”

The questioning came during a Wednesday testimony of Attorney General Barr to the Senate Judiciary Committee where Sen. Harris got Barr to admit to deciding not to charge President Trump without reviewing the evidence presented by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Since the testimony, Harris has called for the attorney general's resignation.
