Serena Williams opened up about what led her to pull out of the Rogers Cup.
On Saturday, August 4, the tournament announced Williams would not compete, citing “personal reasons,” according to The Associated Press.
Williams revealed those reasons in a candid Instagram post where she detailed her struggle with postpartum emotions:
At the end of the post, she expressed solidarity with other mothers who face similar insecurities.
“Whether stay-at-home or working, finding that balance with kids is a true art. You are the true heroes,” she said.
This the second time Williams spoke about motherhood this week. In an interview with Essence, she gushed about baby Olympia’s excitement to see her mommy.
“Well, every moment…every morning when she first sees me, she squeals,” Williams said. “Every day, I’d come home from one of my matches and Wimbledon, and she’d just squeal each time she’d see me. I’d try my best to rush home, and I’d miss her still. It’s like nothing I’ve ever heard before—the best thing I’ve ever heard.”
