Shaquille O’Neal keeps it old school when it comes to his children turning 18 years old, and his daughters have a considerable advantage over his sons!

The NBA legend sat down with The Pivot Podcast last week, and he dished on how he has different requirements for his sons and daughters once they reach adulthood. Specifically, Shaq revealed that, while his daughters get to live at home for as long as they want, his boys have to be out at 18.

“I like my girls a little bit better,” O’Neal admitted on the podcast. “As a man, you have to protect, provide and love your woman.”

“I trust them more because they’re more sensitive, they’re more caring and they’re thinkers,” he said of his daughters.

“You know how boys are. My boys, you bring something in front of them and they’re gone.”

Meanwhile, Shaq had some different words when it came to his sons. The 50-year-old has different requirements for his sons and daughters once they reach legal adulthood.

“I tell my boys, ‘When y’all get 18, you all got to go.’ Girls can stay as long as they want,” he proclaimed. “I’m dead serious. [The girls] can stay as long as y’all want.”

“Take your time. Go to college, get your master’s, get your doctorate. I’ll pay for it — take your time,” he continued.

Aside from dishing on this rule, it’s also worth adding that Shaq went on to speak about how fatherhood changed him for the better.

“Being a dad helped me become more likable,” he said. “You know how it is in sports. When I lose, I’m tearing my house up. I’m pissed; I’m breaking everything, but as soon as you have the kids, soon as you open that door, all that has to go away.”

“It all has to go away. You have to be nice, especially with girls because the kids, they don’t care if you win or lose,” Shaq added.

The former NBA star shares four children with his ex-wife, Shaunie O’Neal: Shareef, Amirah, Shaqir and Me’arah. Shaunie also has a son named Myles from a previous relationship and Shaq shares a daughter named Taahirah with an ex-girlfriend.
