"The writers and I have approached this season as a no-holds-barred, all-bets-off season… Every episode will be special. Some of it's going to be hilarious and some of it's going to be heartbreaking."
Words from showrunner Shonda Rhimes, in an interview with TVGuide.com, posted on Sunday, talking about her medical drama Private Practice.
It's also revealed that she would love to feature a musical episode in the upcoming season of the ABC medical drama, as she did with Grey's Anatomy last year, further admitting that she'd love to "lure back Broadway star Audra McDonald (Naomi) one more time before the series ends."
Fans of the series will recall that McDonald left Private Practice at the end of season four, and went on to star in Broadway's revival of Porgy & Bess, for which she won a Tony Award.
Will Audra bite?
I'm reminded of the piece I wrote a few months ago on whether her record Tony award win, and raised awareness will translate to increased Hollywood (whether TV and/or film) opportunities. As of right now, as far as we know, she isn't booked for anything yet for when Porgy & Bess ends. Then again, she probably could also need a break!
But don't be too shocked if she does return for a musical episode of Private Practice.
Rhimes also promises "a death, some babies, a likely return of a favorite and there could possibly be a wedding," for next season.
