Showtime is developing an hour-long scripted drama set in the world of professional basketball – specifically, it’ll take a behind-the-scenes look at how an NBA team is run. 

Assuming it isn’t set prior to the 1950s, I’d expect there to be several roles for black actors/basketball players. Although the series will likely focus more on the family that owns and runs the team, as well as the head coach (or coaches), more than it will on the lives of the players.

Ron Shelton, who isn’t a stranger to sports-related dramas after writing and directing Bull Durham and White Men Can’t Jump, will pen the script for the untitled NBA series, as well as direct and exec produce.

Los Angeles Lakers exec Jeanie Buss, as well as former Lakers coach Phil Jackson are also exec producers, along with Kurt Rambis (former Lakers star and now assistant coach) and Linda Rambis.
