One Louisiana police officer tried it when he attempted to sue the Black Lives Matter movement.

According to MSN, the officer's basis for suing was because in July 2016 he was hit in the head during a protest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As many of us know, the #BlackLivesMatter movement began as a hashtag in 2012 with the death of Trayvon Martin. It then grew into a nationwide movement in response to police brutality and the unjust treatment of black people in America.

From there, it has been associated with being a terrorist group and police has even formed a counter movement called "bluelivesmatter." Black Lives Matter even brought one officer to sue the movement with no avail.

"'Black Lives Matter,' as a social movement, cannot be sued, however, in a similar way that a person cannot plausibly sue other social movements such as the Civil Rights movement, the LGBT rights movement or the Tea Party movement," Chief Judge Brian Jackson of a U.S District Court in Baton Rouge wrote in a 24-page ruling.

While the movement itself couldn't be sued, Jackson said, an associated entity could be held liable. However, the judge found the officer had not made a sufficient case against such a group or an individual involved and dismissed the lawsuit.

It's doubtful that this will be the last time that a case like this will emerge, and only time will tell how this case will affect the next. For now, the movement isn't going out like that.
