Kamala Harris raised eyebrows and wooed crowds with her comments on reparations and gun control at CNN's town hall Monday night.

HuffPost reports Sen. Kamala Harris joined four other Democratic presidential candidates to discuss their views on topics such as voting rights and impeachment.

Harris, who officially announced her bid for the head of state in January, garnered attention for her response to a question regarding reparations.

The 54-year-old legislator restated her support for the H.R. 40 Bill, which would support increased research on the topic of reparations. Earlier this month, the bill received a notable boost from Sen. Cory Booker, another 2020 presidential candidate, who added a measure to commission a congressional team for the task, as Blavity reported.

When questioned about her stance on the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans Act, she was quick to respond:

“We had centuries of slavery in this country," said Harris to CNN host Don Lemon. "We had decades of Jim Crow. We had legalized discrimination and segregation. And then we had de facto discrimination and segregation. And to believe or suggest that those years of … abuse and violence and crime did not have an impact is to overlook the facts of history.”

However, Harris fell short in relaying her support for the bill in its entirety.

When Lemon asked if the country's first Indian American U.S. Senator supported monetary funds as a means of reparations, she stalled.

“I support that we study them,” she responded. “When you are talking about the years and years and years of trauma that were experienced because of slavery, because of Jim Crow and because of all that we have seen in terms of institutional and legal discrimination and racism, this is very real and it needs to be studied. And we need to look at exactly how the response should be played out.”

Conversely, the California lawmaker was very precise and adamant about how she would like to tackle the lack of gun control laws in our country.

CNN reports she promised to dedicate her first 100 days to creating and constituting practical laws for gun safety and prevention.

"Upon being elected, I will give the United States Congress a hundred days to get their act together and have the courage to pass reasonable gun safety laws," Harris expressed. "If they fail to do it, then I will take executive action."

"Part of what happened under the current administration is they took fugitives off the list of prohibited people," she continued. "I put them back on the list, meaning that fugitives from justice should not be able to purchase a handgun or any kind of weapon."

The 2020 hopeful says her plan would include stronger background checks, strict surveillance of gun manufacturers and dealers and plans to revoke gun provisions from any person convicted of domestic abuse.
