Terrence Howard might have said he was retiring from acting, but he’s back in the actor’s character as well as the director’s chair with his new TV project, Delta Blues.

According to Deadline, Howard will star and direct the series, which will be an hour-long drama detailing the story of blues pioneer W.C. Handy. Howard will star with Evan Ross, however, neither of them are playing Handy. Showrunners are also currently being set.

Howard said he was forced to reverse his decision on retiring after reading the script, which he described as “better than bacon.”

“I was done. But I am putting retirement on hold to tell this story,” he said, according to Deadline. “…This story is about our history and has to be handled very carefully. I am committed to telling the truths of the times, even the uncomfortable truths.”

The series will be executive produced by Zero Gravity Management, who also produces Netflix’s Ozark and Self-Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker.

Even though Howard is talking as if Delta Blues is his first project post-retirement, Howard has previously committed to another project, the Brett Leonard-directed film Triumph, starring RJ Mitte and executive produced by Howard. The film, according to Howard, will support the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
