On Friday, March 17th, 2017, political conservatives around the world wept and cried for a fallen ally: Tomi Lahren. As a guest on the infamous, and at times controversial, The View, Lahren made comments on pro-life vs. pro-choice. On the show, Lahren stated: “I’m pro-choice, and here’s why. I am a constitutional, y’know, someone that loves the Constitution. I’m someone that’s for limited government,” she said. “So, I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government but I think the government should decide what women do with their bodies. I can sit here and say that, as a Republican and I can say, you know what, I’m for limited government, so stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well.”

The change in her ideal has made many of her followers unhappy. Glenn Beck, the founder of her show’s platform, The Blaze chimed in via Twitter, asking for #IntellecualHonesty in opposition to one of Lahren’s tweets about having “moderate, conservative, and libertarian views.” Subsequently, in response to the comments made on The View, Lahren has been permanently banned from The Blaze.

With all the facts surrounding this ordeal, I am left to question if Lahren should be punished for being an opportunist or praised for evolving?

Just In October of last yea,r Lahren tweeted, “Illegals have rights in the USA but not the unborn?” And in 5 short months, the woman who once spoke out fervently against feminists and Planned Parenthood is now for a woman’s right to choose. Also not too long ago, Lahren called Donald Trump “Snookie of Politics” before he won the Presidential election. Nowadays, you can find her supporting the President. So is she a follower or is she developing her own views?

I can recall, distinctly, at the age of 9, having decided that I would marry at the age of 24 and have two children by the age of 30. Here I am at 30, unmarried, and without children, all because of my own personal evolution. I have spent 30 years on this earth, making claims and decisions that have all undergone major reconstruction and I have 6 more years of life than Lahren; a woman who at 24 just decided to be pro-choice. At 24 years old, life had not yet made sense to me, so I can only imagine what she is just beginning to see for herself. Is she allowed to change her mind or does she have to stick with political party principles even if she no longer supports them?

Could it be an opportunity that provoked her to side with a liberal audience in order to gain a larger fan base? If that be the case, why did she not do so with Trevor Noah on The Daily Show? Or could it also be evolution, in which Lahren begins to develop her own views outside political norms?

The reality is evolution and change is all inevitable; we can do nothing to prevent it. The change or path of another is not ours to understand. What we do know is that she is choosing to side with the notion that women should be able to decide what to do with their bodies and I find no fault in that. While I would love to know why she crossed over into the light, it is honestly none of my business. So, I will not praise nor will I punish Lahren. I will pray for her to continue her evolution because you never know… she may cease to be “constitutional” and be a bit more civil in the end.
