Things aren’t looking very good for Scandal right now, ahead of next month’s Primetime Emmy Awards nominations announcements on Thursday, July 18.
I say that because last month’s nominees for the 3rd Annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards (from the The Broadcast Television Journalists Association), were Scandal-free. The hit Shonda Rhimes series didn’t receive a single nomination.
Skip ahead 3 weeks to today’s Television Critics Association (TCA) announcement of their nominees, which is also completely Scandal-free. In fact, unlike the Broadcast Television Journalist Association’s Critics’ Choice Awards, which saw 5 different black actors/performers nominated, the TCAs are mostly *color-free* unfortunately. I’m just stating the obvious.
Of note, the critically-acclaimed documentary, The Central Park Five, received a nomination in the News And Information category.
No surprise, cable TV dominates the TCA’s list of nominees. That is where the best TV resides these days, as broadcast networks look to retool their lineups starting next season in order to compete. The one major category in which broadcast networks dominate is in Reality TV. *Shocking*
Also worth noting, Netflix received its first official acknowledgement as a player in the TV space, with multiple nominations for House Of Cards.
The TCA awards will be presented on Saturday, August 3.
