That moment when someone tweets something into the universe and it is manifested!
Remember that now-infamous 2014 Miu Miu front row fashion show pic of Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o and Grammy-winner Rihanna?
Per Entertainment Weekly, Netflix has scooped the twitter-sourced project starring Lupita and Rihana after dramatic negotiation session at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
True to "life imitating Twitter" form, Ava DuVernay (13th, A Wrinkle In Time) is set to direct, while Issa Rae (Insecure) is in talks to write the screenplay. Netflix beat out the competition in a very aggressive bid, sources told EW.
Forgot the play-by-play of this deal come to life? Let's take a trip down memory lane:
This photo and caption envisioning an epic heist movie went viral, resulting in Lupita and Rihanna eagerly jumping on board.
Basically, the concept follows Rihanna, a "Joanne The Scammer" type woman who cons white men while her tech savvy co-conspirator (Nyong'o) orchestrates the heists. It's basically a black girl magical buddy flick!
Twitter users joined the fun and pretty much became casting/crew directors, asking for DuVernay to direct and Rae to write. All four women pledged their support via tweetable agreements.
EW sources say that Rae is already working on the script, and the studio is eyeing a production start of 2018 after DuVernay completes her current film.
Twitter so lit! I am beyond ready for this!
