Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook accomplished a historic feat Tuesday night, completing the rather rare double triple-double in a 119-103 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

The former NBA MVP recorded 20 points, 20 rebounds and 21 assists in 37 minutes and became only the second player in the association's history to achieve such a performance. According to Sports Illustrated, Wilt Chamberlain was the first to reach that milestone on February 2, 1968. 

Westbrook had some extra encouragement for his memorable evening, revealing after the game that he did it for rapper Nipsey Hussle, who Blavity reported was shot dead Sunday afternoon outside of his clothing shop in Los Angeles. 

"Grateful to play the game, but that wasn't for me, man. That was for my bro, man. That was for Nipsey," the 30-year-old said on the on the court following the contest. "Rest in peace to Nipsey, man. I'm just thankful to go out there and compete at a high level, man. Thankful to have these teammates. Thankful and humbled to go out there and play the game I love."

Like the late Victory Lap artist, Westbrook also grew up in the Los Angeles area and played basketball at UCLA from 2006 to 2008. The father of three walked into the arena donning a blue shirt that said Crenshaw on it, a tribute to one of Nip's many mixtapes.

Westbrook also posted some words for his late friend on Twitter after the win.
