November 6, 2018, also known as Election Day, has come (and almost gone). Since we're all in this together, we decided to ask our Blavity Fam to show us their voting receipts with social media selfies.

Y'all showed up (to the polls) and showed out (on social media)!

After 2016, I vowed to never again have any faith in this country’s broken democratic voting system – built entirely on white supremacy, violence, suppression and the utter humiliation of black folks. Even still, I stood in line today at my polling place, worked almost entirely by a staff of elder black women – and tears welled up in my eyes. These women, one of them 84, still had enough faith to stand at the poll and educate their community about their power. I look at voting more than anything as a thank you – a loud outcry of praise to my fearless ancestors and elders – the many black women before me who waited hours in line to be turned away, those who cried, bled, resisted and endured so that their sons and daughters could cast their ballot. May this be a day of reckoning for those women across America. Justice is coming. It must. PC: @rushotya & @asamp #ivoted #thisisamerica #myblackvotematters #blackvotesmatter

I wrote this.. a few years back, but changed some things around and am reposting because it remains relevant to my feelings about today, Happy Election Day! ~ In the wake of recent events In the wake of old and constant events In the wake of what feels like will be an eternity of events To the disenfranchized that got up this morning That came back To the broken hearted To those that have to heal themselves amongst themselves by themselves and only with themselves because no one else would To the spirits that have refused to be broken and the fighters that wouldn’t let their demons win To every person of color, every woman, every trans person, every immigrant that walks into a room on stolen land Feeling like they don’t belong Like their clothes have fallen Like their bodies have no agency To everyone considering leaving To everyone that cried during this season 2 year ago and to those who gave thanks to god To their anscestors on this day 10 years ago To those that can no longer articulate the pain building in their chest from their own oppression their fear For feeling like you’re being choked and chained and ripped and hung for every unspoken word replaced by a hug a tear a protective gaze & to those bearing the burden of conditioned hatred For those that are about to break Thank you. Thank you for being here. Thank you for coming back. Thank you for getting up today, For traveling in the rain, For waiting in line, Thank you for voting!! • ???? As per usual, Black women were present and accounted for when it came to working for positive change, but our brothas were there, too.

Our very own Blavity, Inc. team didn't want you to be alone in your voting glory, so we took some selfies, too.
