Update (November 18, 2018): In a Facebook post on November 18, Rice stated that although the Browns have a special place in her heart, she's "not ready to coach."

"I love my Browns — and I know they will hire an experienced coach to take us to the next level," Rice said via the social platform.

The former United States Secretary of State went on to explain that she hopes the NFL will seriously "start to bring women into the coaching profession as position coaches and eventually coordinators and head coaches."

She concluded the statement with another way she could be of assistance to the NFL team.

"BTW — I'm not ready to coach but I would like to call a play or two next season if the Browns need ideas! And at no time will I call for a 'prevent defense.'"

Original: Former Sec. of State Condoleeza Rice could become the first woman head coach.

ESPN reports the Cleveland Browns General Manager John Dorsey has expressed interest in interviewing the prominent former President George W. Bush cabinet member.

"She's an amazing person," one Browns source told ESPN.

While the decision to interview a politician seems odd, Rice has created a new career in sports since her days in the White House. From 2013–2016, she served as an inaugural member of the College Football Playoff selection committee.

Rice recently chaired a commission on college basketball that ended the one and done rule. If chosen, she will replace fired coach Hue Jackson, reports Deadspin.

The life-long Browns fan has been on record about spending quality time with her father watching the team. Rice was part of the team's promotional events at one time, according to ESPN. She has been seen wearing Browns jerseys, as well.

"Our coaching search will be thorough and deliberate, but we are still in the process of composing the list of candidates and Secretary Rice has not been discussed," an initial statement from Dorsey said.

However, league sources are confident the 64-year-old will be interviewed. There is also murmurs around the league she could be the next NFL commissioner.

Critics find the move strange because of her role orchestrating the War on Terror.

Rice will be the first woman to be interviewed for a head coaching job. The New York Post notes there have been three female assistant coaches in the league.

Well, Donald Trump became president, so anything is possible.
