A transgender woman's brutal assault outside of a Dallas apartment complex in April that was captured on video has been fatally shot. The suspect is still at large.

According to NBC News, Muhlaysia Booker was found lying face down on a street northeast of downtown Dallas Saturday morning. While Dallas Police Lt. Vincent Weddington classified the 23-year-old's passing as "homicidal violence," he declined to divulge anymore about the investigation.

Blavity previously reported that Booker was the subject of a violent ambush by a mob of attackers outside of a Dallas residential complex in April. After being involved in a minor traffic incident that put her in the vicinity of the Royal Crest Apartments, she was brutally assaulted as her aggressors yelled homophobic slurs at her. A 29-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault as a result. CBS reports there's no evidence of any connection between last month's beating and Booker's murder.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings mourned Booker online and called on anyone with information about her death to contact police.

Per Human Rights Watch, at least 26 transgender people were killed in the United States in 2018, the majority of whom are Black.
