The catastrophic events of Hurricane Harvey in Houston and surrounding Texas areas have been frustrating to watch, and a lot of people are left wondering how they could help.

Per ABC Houston, Texas governor Gregg Abbott recently announced that he is activating the entire Texas National Guard to chip in regarding the search and rescue efforts following the worst of the Category 4 hurricane.

About 3,000 guard members were previously deployed along the Texas coast, but Abbott's recent announcement means that number will significantly increase to approximately 12,000. Abbott will be sending in guard members that are not currently deployed elsewhere.

Per Abbott, his decision is because he believes it is "imperative we do everything possible" to protect lives.
