As we float through Women's History Month, the Girl Scouts of the United States of America have taken the creative route in paying homage to great American women. Partnering up with Toodlewood, an organization that specializes in re-creating celebrity photographs with children, the Girl Scouts used their own members in a photo series that acknowledges historic women.

Women like astronaut Mae Jemison, diplomat Condoleezza Rice and entrepreneur Madam CJ Walker were honored through colorful imagery by Toodlewood photographers in shoots that emphasized the importance of representation and of having powerful images of historic women. Chief Girl and Parent Expert at Girl Scouts of the USA, Andrea Bastiani Archibald, gave a statement to Buzzfeed about the phenomenal campaign. “Our biggest hope is that these girls, and in fact, every girl, can look in the mirror and clearly see her own potential — that she, too, can break barriers and change the world.”

The organization has been steadfast in its attempts to be inclusive, sharing its positive images and messages with girls around the country. Just two years ago, the Scouts changed their guidelines to include transgender girls into their group.
