By now you’ve probably seen the over-used clips from out-of-touch mainstream media outlets such as CNN and Fox News regarding the protests in Baltimore. Following the death of Freddie Gray in police custody, activists and community members alike gathered in the streets to let it be known that #blacklivesmatter. But what was shown on TV was a jaded and biased depiction of the reality of the situation. Luckily, both social media and citizen reporting have held police officers responsible for their excessive force.
One of the creators of a video titled “The Violence in Baltimore”, Simone Varano, describes it as “an attempt to show those confused by the riots in Baltimore why people living in these neighborhoods feel that there is nothing left for them to do but to fight back.”
