There is no doubt that Wendy Moten and Jonathan Mouton’s performance on Monday’s episode of The Voice was anything less than stellar. The two vocal powerhouses have control that rivals the most trained professionals. The coaches were thoroughly impressed.
Mouten performed Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now.” John Legend gave Mouton praise for his “heart and joy.”
He said, “When I paired you with Wendy, part of it was, let’s see what this guy’s made of. You stepped out here, and that was incredible.”
Moten performed “Ain’t No Way” by Aretha Franklin. Her performance was nothing short of perfection making her the clear winner, though Mouton was excellent.
"You just absolutely blew it out of the water," Ariana Grande told Moten.
She added, “Can you please hold some meet-and-greet passes for Kelly and I for your tour?”
Shelton said, “I can’t even imagine the offers that are gonna come your way…. I’m just so happy for you, it’s about d**n time.”
He quickly realized that this decision would be difficult, explaining, “Jonathan, he blew me away. The only problem is, Wendy blew the building away. I fully expect to see her in the finale.”
Shelton named Moten the winner. In that moment as the coaches prepared for the next performance, Shelton was seen wiping a tear away.
“I’m telling you, man, something’s going on with me,” he said with a laugh.
“You’re getting mushy?” Clarkson teased.
“This is married Blake,” John Legend added, and Ariana Grande agreed, “It’s Gwen,” referencing Shelton’s wife and excuse for his more emotional side.
