A North Carolina county has been forced to hand over $15,000 to Assata Shakur thanks to a land deal. Despite Shakur being named one of the FBI's “Most Wanted Terrorists,” they were unable to stop the check from being given to its rightful owner.

We don't know how it's going to get to her, but that's what's up.

According to the Port City Daily, the payment was made as part of a long-sought land deal between a private limited liability company and descendants of the Freeman family that owned land near Freeman Park in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. Shakur, also known as Joanne Chesimard, is one of the last Freeman heirs to sell with no other heirs coming forward.

A motion was heard on April 2, and Judge Joshua Wiley ruled in her favor saying, "the Court is aware of no legal reason for the Clerk of Superior Court for New Hanover County, North Carolina not to pay the $15,351.39 to Ms. Shakur, directly or through her appointed power of attorney.”

The check was signed the following day. Currently, the FBI and the Office of the U.S. Attorney are investigating whether any laws were violated as part of the deal, according to the Port City Daily.

The land deal is nearly a decade old; however, after escaping prison, Shakur fled to Cuba where she was granted political asylum following her alleged role in the fatal shooting of a New Jersey state trooper in the 1970s.

Much of white America seems upset about the deal. However, the judge ordered the county to cut the check. According to the Chicago Tribune, Shakur writes and occasionally entertains guests.
