Tika Sumpter has joined forces with writer Tracy McMilli and producer Micahel London to co-executive produce a new CBS drama. The show entitled The 313, takes on the drama and scandals surrounding politics in Detroit. Sumpter will play the City Council President who becomes the Mayor of Detroit after a sex scandal ruins the previous administration.

Sumpter currently plays a lead role on Tyler Perry’s hit show The Haves and Have Nots where she has made it clear that she has no intentions of leaving. Due to their production schedule, she is able to shoot both shows.

With a new baby on the way and coming off the heels of her phenomenal portrayal of First Lady Michelle Obama in the biopic, Southside With You, Sumpter is keeping busy. She is executive producer of John Legend’s TV adaptation of Black Wall Street, coming to WGN in 2018.
