Method Man recently shared an interesting revelation about dealing with low self-esteem on a podcast with Math Hoffa. During the interview, he apologized to the members of Destiny’s Child for an encounter in 2001, Revolt reports.

He opened up about an incident when he met Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams during an MTV special for Janet Jackson in 2001. He thought the young women were ignoring him when he said hello to them but acknowledged that they likely did not hear him since the room was extremely loud. He also cited his low self-esteem for misunderstanding it as a diss, according to HipHopDX.

“My ass, in my head, with my low self-esteem is like, ‘They just s**tted on me.’ When in fact, they didn’t even hear me. It was so loud in that muthaf**ka. That’s the excuse that I’m giving right now — they didn’t even f**king hear me,” he said, according to HipHopDX. “Afterward, Rockwilder, he was gonna do the ‘Bootylicious’ song for them. He comes over, he’s talking to them, he’s like, ‘Oh, you know Red and Meth?’ And they put their hands out to shake, and I kept my hand here and was like, ‘Go ‘head with that Hollywood s**t.'”

“I didn’t like myself so I didn’t like anybody f**king else,” he added. “So that meant anything that would have come in my circumference at that point in time was gonna get it. My family went through a lot with my ass during that era, man. And I can admit that I did take a lot of my f**king misery out on them, and they did not deserve it. And I took some of my misery out on people at Def Jam that did not f**king deserve it.”

According to the rapper, his behavior resulted from feeling unhappy with himself, dealing with issues surrounding his career and heavy drug and alcohol use.

After detailing the encounter, the rapper offered an apology to the camera, specifically directing it to Beyoncé, Kelly and Michelle.

“To this day, that s**t hurt my heart because neither Kelly, Beyoncé or Michelle ever did any f**king thing to me,” he said. “But me being so miserable and in that f**king moment, I felt like they wasn’t treating me the way I should have been treated. Who am I to think that about these girls? And to this day, man, I don’t think I’ve ever apologized for that.”

Fans supported Method Man’s honesty and maturity in taking accountability for his past actions.
