If you know anything about anything then you know that 90s R&B is the last great era of music. There is a reason people are wearing shirts proclaiming "if the love don't feel like 90s R&B, then I don't want it". Cause it meant something, ok?

There is no other time in the history of music where every single artist stepped into the studio with the sole purpose of turning that mutha out! It was as though there was a competition of who could execute the most effective run, who could drop to their knees and expose the most torso on stage, and who could have the most fans record this track from the radio and practice all the ad-libs.

It did not matter the topic, if you were a signed artist from the years of 1990-1996, you were gonna step to that mic like the rent was due, like you had a point to prove, like the integrity of your vocal prowess was on the line and it was mandatory that you deliver. And we were all here for it. This list comprises just some of the 90s music, the men in particular, who never disappointed or failed to produce these fantastical, occasionally over the top, sheer masterpieces.

1. Az Yet

Last Night

Ok. So maybe I'm leading here with a one and a half hit wonder. However, the way Az Yet hit the bridge on this song will have you caught up in a full whirlwind that will initially leave you startled at the frankness of the lyrics and ultimately filled with every emotion you ever felt on earth.

2. DRS

Gangsta Lean

Y'all. This was a group that was comprised of "gangstas" who, instead of rapping over a hot beat, chose to sing from the diaphragm to us about tipping a 40 to the memory of their fallen friend. They gotta be on the list.

3. Johnny Gill

My, My, My

Look. There ain't a song Johnny sang that didn't fully showcase every vein in his neck   On this gem, Johnny wrapped us up in these ad-libs and sent every woman out to go buy a red dress.

4. R. Kelly

 She's Got That Vibe

I don't think I will ever understand why this song needed so much power in its delivery, but I surely enjoy singing along in my car, as well as his not so subtle shout out to Lil Kim and Aaliyah. ????

5. Wanya Morris

On Bended Knee

Yes, he was in a group, but it is necessary to isolate Wanya Morris in this top ten as there are few that can compete with the pure energy he inserts into this song to convince this woman to take him back. Wanya is his own separate entity.

6. K Ci Hailey

Forever My Lady

Again, yes, K Ci was in a group, but we all know that it's K Ci's voice that you hear in your head when you think of Jodeci. On this, their first jam, K Ci shows us how to rip a song to shreds with an exposed chest in combat boots.

7. Christopher Williams

I'm Dreamin'

This man managed to give us soul and emotion through one of the raspiest tones I've ever heard. He meant these lyrics. He had to be hoarse after every performance. He pulled it from his gut. "Don't wake meeee!"

8. Eddie and Gerald Levert

Baby Hold Onto Me

There was no way that the joining of these two voices would be anything short of an R&B power ballad. The Leverts were notorious for tearing stages up and making the ladies swoon with those dulcets.

9. Bobby Brown

Good Enough

Sure, he was known as the bad boy of R&B, but do not be fooled. Bobby B knew how to use some well-played lyrics and a most earnest delivery to convince us that he would "do it all for you!"

10. Aaron Hall

I Miss You

Aaron sang this song with so much fervor that it's difficult to even recall without a thug tear jumping to your eyes. You could not even be missing a single soul, but hear this thing play on a playlist shuffle? A bundle of tears.

And I can't even address the video —  I'm still traumatized.

What artists do you miss from '90s R&B?
