Produced under a new joint venture between Blackfella Films and Werner Film Productions, here’s a look their very first collaboration – a teenage drama titled "Ready for This," with a cast that’s made up of mostly Indigenous characters.

Commissioned by Australian TV network, ABC3, the series was shot earlier this year in Sydney, and is set to make its debut on the channel on October 5th.

Set in "inner city" Sydney, the plot follows five Indigenous kids who come to the city to pursue their dreams, all cohabiting in a boarding house.

The ensemble cast includes two newcomers, rapper/singer Majeda Beatty who competed in "The X Factor," and Liam Talty, who studied at the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts in Brisbane.

They join Aaron McGrath, Leonie Whyman, Madeleine Madden, Christian Byers, Christine Anu and Lasarus Ratuere.

Originally entitled "My Life in 50 Words or Less," the 13-part drama was funded by Screen Australia, Screen NSW, the ABC and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation, which is handling international sales.

Producer Joanna Werner says there is already international interest in the project as Australia’s first teen Indigenous drama; as she has told Australia’s IF.com, Netflix, which had success with Werner’s "Dance Academy," “loves the cultural specificity" of "Ready for This." So there’s a good chance that it might travel, and end up in your Netflix queue.

Directors of episodes of the series include Daina Reid, Adrian Wills and Tony Krawitz. The writers are Doran, Wills, Jon Bell, Josh Mapleston, Kristen Dunphy, Steve McGregor and Kirsty Fisher.

The cast also includes Hamish Michael, Jimi Bani, Damian de Montemas, Tammy Clarkson, Tony Briggs and Ryan Johnson.

"Ready for This" is just the beginning of what the producing partners hope will be an ongoing collaboration.
