Donald Trump‘s approval rating is sitting at a historical low mark. A new poll from The Washington Post, ABC News and Ipsos, which was released on April 25, showed that Trump has an approval rating of 39% after nearly 100 days in office. That number shows a decline of six percent since the last survey released in February, per USA Today.
Where does Trump’s approval rating rank historically?
The latest poll number shows that Trump’s rating is the lowest that has been seen since Franklin D. Roosevelt’s third term. CNN also released a recent poll that showed Trump’s approval rating sitting at 41%. That’s the lowest mark since Dwight Eisenhower.
What’s behind Trump’s low approval rating?
According to USA Today, voters are specifically expressing concern about how Trump is handling the economy. Sixty-one percent of the people who were surveyed in the Washington Post, ABC News and Ipsos poll said Trump is mishandling the economy as he enforces tariffs and puts the country at risk of a recession. Voters also showed concern with Trump’s immigration policies and how he’s handling the federal government.
About 900 voters also shared their views on Trump’s first 100 days as they took part in a recent survey conducted by the New York Times and Siena College Research Institute. According to the poll, around 54% of the participants disapprove the president’s policies on the economy, immigration and foreign trade, as well as the war between Russia and Ukraine.
One 55-year-old Virginia resident who spoke to CNN said she was hoping Trump wouldn’t be a disappointment, but that’s exactly what happened.
“I’m disappointed. I didn’t vote for him. I was going to give him the benefit of doubt, because I figured, you know, he could do things to help the economy and … further disappointment,” she told CNN.
