Tuskegee University announced the death of one of its students. Jade Callwood died following “a sudden and unexpected medical emergency” last Tuesday. Tuskegee is offering counseling services to the campus community.
Jade Callwood was a 21-year-old student at Tuskegee University
Jade Callwood was a senior student majoring in Environmental, Resources and Plant Sciences. She was 21 years old and a Georgia native.
She died on Tuesday following what Tuskegee described as a “sudden and unexpected medical emergency” in a news release. The university did not share a cause of death; details surrounding the funeral service have not been released.
“On behalf of Tuskegee University, we extend our deepest condolences to Jade’s family, loved ones, classmates, and all who were touched by her presence,” Tuskegee President Mark A. Brown said. “The grief we feel in this moment is shared across our campus community and by all who knew her both here and at home.”
Tuskegee University expanded its counseling service after Jade Callwood’s death
The university announced expanded counseling services for students, faculty and staff. It shared that counselors were available at the campus’s Chapel all day Wednesday. Students may also access TimelyCare, a 24‑hour online counseling and mental health support service.
Tuskegee invited those grieving to seek community during this time: “During times of loss, it is important to remember that no one is meant to bear sorrow alone,” it wrote in a press release. “As the poet John Donne reminded us, ‘No man is an island.’ We are connected—through our shared experiences, our compassion, and our responsibility to care for one another. In times like this, seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.”
“In this difficult moment, let us hold tightly to one another, offer grace, and take the time to check on our friends, colleagues, and classmates,” it added. “Together, we will walk through this loss as one Tuskegee family.”
