TV news round-up you can use…

First, Salli Richardson-Whitfield has signed on to play a recurring role on BET’s Being Mary Jane, which stars Gabrielle Union. Richardson-Whitfield will appear in at least five episodes during the upcoming second season of the series, playing an old friend of Mary Jane’s. 

Second, Omar J. Dorsey has also landed a recurring role on Showtime‘s Ray Donovanwhich stars Liev Schreiber as LA’s best professional fixer. Dorsey will play a character named Cookie Brown, who is described as a powerful music business entrepreneur recently released from prison.  Dorsey’s other TV credits include Fox’s Rake and HBO’s Eastbound & Down.

And finally, Oxygen Media announced today seven new series as part of the network’s rebrand planned for later this year targeting young women. Including on its roster of new series greenlights of note are:

– Fix My Choir – a music-driven series in which struggling choirs get a chance of much needed mentoring with the help of gospel superstar Deitrick Haddon (Preachers of L.A.) and Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child fame.

– And Sisterhood of Hip Hop – Executive produced by T.I., which will follow the next generation of female hip-hop artists Siya, Nyemiah Supreme, Diamond, Brianna Perry and Bia as they live, love and work towards their dream of becoming the next big breakout star in a male-dominated industry.
