TV One has announced that the network will exclusively debut the remastered, high definition version of the "Roots" miniseries, beginning Sunday, October 18 at 8PM/ET, airing in its entirety the special enhanced version during the week, each night at 8PM/ET (preempted on Friday, October 23), and ending on Saturday, October 24.
This news comes as a reboot/remake of the original “Roots” is in development from A+E Studios, with a cast that includes Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose, Chad L. Coleman, Erica Tazel, Derek Luke, Anna Paquin, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Malachi Kirby, Regé-Jean Page and Laurence Fishburne.
Production is underway in South Africa for a 2016 premiere.
Both versions of "Roots" are based on Alex Haley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book telling the stirring, sweeping saga of his unforgettable family and its struggle over many generations to survive slavery and regain freedom. Cicely Tyson, Edward Asner, John Amos, Louis Gossett, Jr., Lloyd Bridges, Leslie Uggams, Ben Vereen and O.J. Simpson all co-starred in the groundbreaking , award-winning original.
