Yet another black woman making history!

Meet U. Renee Hall, the next chief of the Dallas Police Department and the first woman to ever hold the post in the city. According to NBC Dallas, Hall was one of two black women among the eight finalists for the position.

Hall is new to Dallas, but has been serving in law enforcement for more than 20 years with the Detroit Police Department.

Before being named chief of police in Dallas, Hall was Detroit's deputy chief of police.

Hall is a legacy officer; her father was a Detroit police detective, who was killed while working a case when she was just 6-months-old.

In an interview with Dallas Morning News, Hall said that she believes she is finishing the job her father started.

As she steps into her new role, Hall said, “I am honored to be chosen to lead the Dallas Police Department at this critical time in its history. I look forward to building on the successes of the past, preserving community trust and ensuring the safety of our officers and the entire Dallas community.”

Hall possesses "qualities I believe are critical as we tackle crime to make our city safer while addressing organizational and policy issues within the department," Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax said.

Mike Rawlings, the mayor of Dallas, officially welcomed Hall via Twitter:

"I knew we would get many great candidates, and we did because of the great opportunity. We needed an excellent leader and we got a proven one. I'm pleased with our choice," Mayor Rawlings said.

The Dallas Police Association also saluted Hall's impeccable credentials:

And her academic credentials are nothing to play with either!

A Grambling State University alum with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and master’s degrees in Security Administration and Intelligence Analysis from the University of Detroit Mercy, Hall definitely has extensive experience. She is also a FBI National Academy graduate, completed the Police Executive Leadership Institute program and is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Of course, Detroit also hyped her up, though the city will certainly miss her presence:

Hall is well aware of her new city’s needs, citing the incident last summer when fiver officers were ambushed and gunned down. "This job is about skill. It's about the ability to lead, boost morale and fight crime," Hall said during a meet-and-greet back when she was still a finalist for the top job. "To bring a city that needs to heal together at a whole. I bring that."

U. Renee Hall starts her new police chief duties in Dallas on September 5. Congrats to her and, good luck!
