Usher entered 2019 as the subject of countless wide eyes after debuting a new hairstyle. The 40-year-old was seen sporting a James Brown-esque permed coif on his Instagram page via an IG live story. A fan page shared the footage and images of the since-expired post.

"@Usher brought in the new year with a #Prince and #temptation vibe. Gotta love it…. Happy New Year," the page captioned.

The look pays homage to the 1920s to 1960s hairstyle called "the conk," made popular by Black men who relaxed their hair to achieve large, slicked-back pompadours. Back in 2016, the Cut premiered their "100 Years of Beauty" video showing the style that was often worn by singers like James Brown and Little Richard.

Usher shared three Instagram photos showing off his hair while donning a fur coat.

"Rat Pack 2019," he captioned.

The new hairdo comes days after the Grammy-award winning singer filed for divorce from his wife and manager Grace Miguel. According to USA Today, the couple who had been married since 2015 confirmed their separation earlier in the year.

Fans reacted to the new hairstyle with hilarious photos and commentary:

Sorry Usher boo, this ain't it.
