The Chicago Police Department was recently caught conducting a bait truck operation on the city's south side. The truck was placed to entice passerbys to steal what appeared to be unmonitored designer shoes. Following widespread outrage, Vic Mensa has come up with the best clapback for the bait truck, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Mensa’s SaveMoneySaveLife Foundation plans to host a “anti-bait truck” event that will give away shoes. Food trucks will also be present.
“We wanted to do something in response, but have a positive response,” Laundi Keepseagle, executive director of the organization said last Thursday. “We don’t want to create conflict with the police, but we do want to take a step forward, and just showcase that acts like that aren’t acceptable in communities that we care for.”
Last week Chicago Police escorted a “bait-truck” full of shoes through the South Side of Chicago to lure poor people with FREE NIKES. So we’re filling a truck with shoes to give away to those who need it. Buy a pair and donate here:https://t.co/8xkLTHTEhX

The goal was to distribute 5,000 pairs of shoes. However, according to activist Shaun King, the nonprofit has already collected 4,000 pairs and now wants to shoot for 10,000 pairs.
THANK YOU ALL!! The first orders of shoes you purchased for Chicago’s students are coming in from all over the country!

The organization has collected shoes via an Amazon wish list and donations from public figures. The date of the event will be announced once SaveMoneySaveLife receives the shoes.
The “anti-bait truck” will be stationed at the same site as the truck full of Nike shoes Chicago police used to lure and arrest people. Three men were arrested and charged with breaking into the truck and taking items. The charges were later dropped “in the interest of justice.”
One man who was arrested still faces a simple battery charge after refusing to drop a collapsible knife. One of the other men arrested was deaf, and used sign language to tell authorities he entered the truck to look for food.
