Vin Diesel scored another victory in an assault case brought forth by a former assistant.
According to Variety, Asta Jonasson, who was once Diesel’s assistant, alleged that Diesel sexually assaulted her 15 years ago. She also alleged that when he was in Atlanta shooting Fast Five, the fifth installment of the popular Fast & Furious series.
On Nov. 19, Judge Daniel M. Crowley dismissed the complaint on the basis that California law isn’t enforceable in Georgia.
What was Vin Diesel accused of doing?
In December 2023, Jonasson sued Diesel, saying that the actor allegedly took her to his hotel room and tried to have sex with her. Uncomfortable, she said she objected to his sexual advances and attempted to leave the room, but that he stopped her, forced her against a wall and pulled down her panties before making her place her hands on his erect penis.
The filing also claimed that she was terminated on the ninth day of employment by Diesel’s sister, just hours after the alleged incident.
Previous sexual assault lawsuits against Vin Diesel were also dismissed
During Crowley’s order on Wednesday, he dismissed the remaining six for lack of jurisdiction.
“It is undisputed that the alleged sexual assault took place in Atlanta, Ga.,” Crowley wrote in his ruling, according to Variety.
He added that the claim “fails as a matter of law because California statutes are presumed not to have extraterritorial effect unless the Legislature expressly states otherwise in adopting the statute.”
This comes after the judge had already thrown out four of Jonasson’s 10 claims in June 2025, finding the statute of limitations barred them. Under normal circumstances, the entire lawsuit would have been time-barred. In 2022, however, Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act, which reopened a window for certain sexual assault cases dating back to 2009.
Crowley concluded that nothing in the statute suggests that it applies beyond California’s borders.
