If you're not already psyched for this (we've talked about it enough), or at least curious to see what happens on the series this season, maybe today's piece of news will do something for ya…

In an interview with The Huffington Post, The Walking Dead showrunner, Glen Mazzara, talks about what to expect during the hit AMC series' 3rd season, including Danai Gurira as Michonne, the darkness of the series, and what characters will die, which may be a spoiler you may not want to read.

Of most interest, on Danai Gurira as everyone's favorite sword-wielding zombie slasher, Mazzara had this to say:

"She's a very interesting character to write. Danai Gurira has really done a great job. She's brought this character to life and she's just so much fun to write. I don't want to just say she's a badass, that's so common. But let me just say she's a warrior, she's a solider, she doesn't take crap from anybody and she sees right into the heart of people. It's hard to pull one over on her. She plays a very, very important role this season. I just think people will be excited to follow her journey because she really, in some ways, becomes one of the hearts of the show. She becomes a very, very essential figure."

Well, that's good to know, and something we'll be watching for specifically. It's going to be a good year for Danai.

And as for what characters will die this season…:

"We talk about everyone's demise to the chagrin of all of the actors. All I can promise is there will be major character deaths throughout Season 3, but I can't possibly say who or where, but I guarantee all of them will be surprising."

He doesn't say who exactly, other than that there will be "major character deaths" throughout the season, and they are guaranteed to be surprising. Hopefully, with Michonne becoming a "very essential figure" she won't be one of them; or at least, if she is, it won't be early in the season.

Might T-Dogg succumb to the brotha rule… finally? Somehow I don't think fans would be upset with that, given how much frsutration has been expressed over his lack of any real use in the series.

Who else might bite the bullet that's a major character in the series? I'll leave the speculation to you folks… especially those who are familiar with the graphic novel the show is based on.

Mazzara told The Huffington Post that he wants to make the series more intense, unpredictable, thrilling, surprising and very far ahead of the audience so that they have no idea what's coming next.

And as season 3 introduces audiences to the prison, where all kinds of brutal and sadistic things occur in the graphic novel, Mazzara says:

We're not going to shy away from any dark material, but I will say that fans will be surprised at the dark material that we do show. What we actually take from the comic book and what original dark material we have coming up, will really surprise the audience.

I'm sure fans are more than ready for whatever intense, unpredictable, thrilling, surprising, dark material they have to throw at us! Less than a week to go –  The Walking Dead premieres this Sunday, October 14 at 9 pm ET on AMC.
