Here’s your first look at Alfre Woodard in the new NBC drama State of Affairs, which has picked up a series order from the network, for the 2014/2015 TV season.
The series will star Katherine Heigl as a top CIA analyst who assembles the President’s Daily Briefing, which is a list of the most vital security issues facing the nation. The job brings with it moral and political judgment calls for Heigl’s character and her trusted group of brilliant analysts at the agency. Aside from the political minefields she has to walk, she has a close personal relationship with the President (played by Alfre Woodard – yes, there will be a black woman president on television next season) because she was once engaged to her son before a tragic terrorist attack took his life. She survived that attack and is now determined to bring the perpetrators to justice. She is all about her job — protecting her nation, serving her President and still trying to get to the bottom of her fiancé’s murder that will reveal itself as a shocking mystery.
The series cast also includes Leslie Odom Jr., playing Chief of Staff to the President. And Mark Tallman plays Woodard’s son/Heigl’s fiancee.
Joe Carnahan, who directed Smoking Aces, The A-Team and The Grey, directed the pilot and is also executive producer.
