You have Issa Rae
to blame…
Since the phenomenal success of her web series, The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl, I don’t have to tell you that there have been black web series coming out everywhere, and every place, by everyone (speaking of which, where’s mine?). Everybody is
trying to grab on the brass ring that Issa Rae grabbed onto.
And it was also only a matter of time before someone who
was involved with ABG launched their own web series.
Now, that time has come.
Andrew
Allan James, who played the role of “A” in Awkward Black Girl, is currently
working on his own project, called Anansi, which is definitely different that your usual black web series.
James says that Anansi is a “supernatural drama utilizing
Caribbean/African mythology, revolving around a young loner who struggles to fit
in, despite a family curse unknowing of the creature he transforms into.”
And furthermore, James says that his series will “explore
explores themes of acceptance, alienation, purpose and self-discovery.”
Here’s the teaser trailer for Anansi:
