Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, here’s the 5th part of its annual Emmy season roundtable chats that we all love so much, released leading up to the September 20 Primetime Emmys this fall.
Today’s hour-long conversation is the Comedy Showrunner Roundtable, which includes Kenya Barris ("Black-ish"), Alec Berg ("Silicon Valley"), Robert Carlock ("The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"), Jay Duplass ("Togetherness"), Steven Levitan ("Modern Family"), and Jill Soloway ("Transparent").
In the "raw, uncensored" conversation, the writers speak candidly about everything (almost) you’d want to know about the business, from a hit comedy showrunner’s POV.
For example, a snip of Barris’ contribution: "My wife pooped herself when she was having our first daughter… That was my first time having a kid, and I started apologizing to the doctors. And my wife was like, ‘Are you apologizing?’ And I put that on the show. Then we watched it as a family and I didn’t tell her. She goes, ‘Are you f—ing kidding me? Did you really do this?’"
