I guess I should start watching Boss with season 2 set to premiere on Friday, August 17, on Starz; a few black actors of note on this show, as the below trailer for the upcoming new season shows, including the divine Sanaa Lathan, who joined the cast of the Golden Globe-winning drama series earlier this year (star Kelsey Grammer won the Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama).
Grammer stars as ruthless Chicago mayor, Tom Kane; Ms Lathan joins the series in a regular role to start in season 2.
Sanaa will play a character named Mona, Mayor Kane’s "incorruptible new chief of staff, who becomes an obsession for him," as the character was described in the initial announcement back in February.
Returning cast members of note include singer/songwriter/actor Rotimi, and James Vincent Meredith.
And, oh yeah, T.I. will join Lathan as one of the series' newbies.
A trailer for season 2 hit the web earlier today, and it's embedded below.
Any Boss fans out there? You excited for season 2? I'm sure Curtis will be talking about it in his weekly "This Week In Black TV" posts, when the time comes in August.
We haven't seen a lot of Sanaa on screen lately it seems (whether TV or film), and that's unfortunate. She had a relatively minor role in Contagion last fall, and has been the voice of Donna Tubbs on the Family Guy animated TV series.
So I'd guess this is a welcomed opportunity for her.
Sanaa will next be seen alongside Forest Whitaker and Anthony Mackie in the Voodoo thriller Vipaka, though I'm not certain where that currently stands.
