The first online trend of 2026 is here, and it’s all about showcasing your personality and work using artificial intelligence. If you’re an avid social media user, you may have noticed content creators or your peers posting AI renditions of themselves in caricature form.

Some portraits include items used in their everyday lives and outfits in connection with their work. If you’ve been wanting to recreate the trend, here’s what you need to know.

How to recreate the AI caricature trend?

People are turning to ChatGPT to generate caricatures of themselves in their everyday lives. Turns out, there are several ways to recreate the trend.

First, log on to the ChatGPT app or website. If you’re a regular user of the platform, you may simply try typing the following prompt, “Create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me.” The more information you’ve shared with ChatGPT, the more content it will have to be able to generate an accurate and detailed caricature of you.

If you haven’t shared much personal information with ChatGPT, or if you simply want to try something a bit more elaborate, you may also add a photo of yourself alongside the prompt. A clear and close-up picture works best.

You may also edit the prompt in order to include details or indications of what you would like to see generated in the picture. For instance, “Create a caricature of me and my job. I am a (job) and work with (detail). My uniform is (detail) and I specialize in (detail).” The more specific the description, the more ChatGPT will be able to accurately generate a caricature of you.

Did the viral AI caricature trend cause ChatGPT to crash?

As the trend started to overtake social media feeds, the website for ChatGPT temporarily went offline.

The website was down for thousands of users across the US on Tuesday. According to Fox10 TV, reports peaked at 13,000 around 2:20 p.m. ChatGPT’s parent company, OpenAI, confirmed the outage and said it had applied “the necessary mitigations” to solve the issue. However, it’s unclear if the trend was the main cause of the outage.

Last year, similar AI trends went viral. Online users tapped ChatGPT to generate pictures of themselves as cartoon characters and action figure starter packs. Some of the trends have led the website to temporarily lag at times.
